The race is very aptly titled. It is an AMAZING Marathon.
The Race is warm and friendly. The participants share race experiences, campsites and sundowners together over the two days they are on the race venue. The time and experiences shared together allows friendships to happen. Indeed one of the founders of the event met her husband when she overtook him on the track!!
Our hosts are the Laikipia Maasai and they bring real culture and colour to the event – not to mention wonderful charm and hospitality
The event takes place in a majestic location – Kimanjo in Northern Laikipia. The views are truly BIG and the route runs from view point to view point with, as our backdrops, Mount Kenya on one side and the Ewaso escarpments on the other. At places on the route it is possible to see for over 200 kms with 360° panorama. Kenya at it’s picturesque best!
The area has abundant wildlife and the run is surrounded by antelope, zebra and giraffe. The race camp regularly has elephant passing through. The race has authentic ‘Africa’ and ‘Safari’ feel
The race is challenging. The area is hot. Rich green if it rains but desert dusty if it doesn’t. In addition the races are at altitude (6000 feet asl) and on dirt roads, and sometimes off them.
And last but by no means least – The race makes a difference ….. on so many levels.
The race is proving to be a very valuable Sports Tourism asset. It showcases the very best of the Laikipia Region bringing real returns to the Community. The race engages community labour and businesses. It show cases the Maasai people and cultures, and the Laikipia region. And importantly it is generating other income streams for the community – Everything from sale of curios to Safari packages.
Last year the Amazing Race itself spent over 900,000 Kenya shillings in the local community
